The Rave

Linked to dVerse Poetics – May I have This Dance?

I am pretty new to WordPress and have discovered a whole community of writers. I came across a prompt by Dverse related to poetry and dancing. I have decided to share one poem from Old & UnWise – A Haphazard Collection of Poetry and Thought which will be out in March 2024. I am a poet. My daughter is a dancer. So I had to share this one.

The Rave

Throbbing booming

    palpitating rhythms of life

Deep sonorous sounds

    reaching the heart in resonance

Causing the sanguine flow

    to turn into a rush

A rush of waves

    beating the beach

In synchronicity

And as we dance

    we leave fleeting footprints

    flirting with the sand

The sand that flows

    and keeps time

A gentle stream

    interrupted by an electronic metronome

Driving syncopated sine waves

    across the dance floor

The dance floor

    swept by stroboscopic lights

Bodies whirl

    in ancestral rhythms

Perforated in imagery

    by intermittent illumination

The intermittent illumination

    allows the mind

    to drift into drumbeat darkness

Emotions and sounds

    steer semi-autonomous limbs

    into tribal rituals

The tribal rituals

    of peace and war

Preparing for the hunt

The songs of plenty

The celebrations of love

The bonds of revelry

The bonds of revelry

    where the colours

    are the beats

The surrender and the freedom

    are merged into the one

The one

The feeling of self

The awareness of life

The pumping within

    and the thumping without

Joined in the abandonment

The abandonment

The rave
